Stone Age

Go, learned from nothing. The players start by placing stones at random; natural selection does the rest.

Getting the players ready…

The champion's game

Strength

Every 20 generations the newest champion plays 50 games against each of six ancestors from across the run. Above 50% it is the stronger. If it stays above 50% against all of them, it has really improved rather than gone round in circles.

The latest test

Over time: its win rate against the first generation, against the champion from half the run ago, and against the most recent ancestor tested

Milestones

  1. Nothing yet. The first players know only the rules.

What it does

Good habits, per cent of the chances it had
Bad habits, per hundred moves

Where it plays

Shapes it seeks, shapes it avoids

The champion's strongest feelings about the eight points around a move, among the shapes it actually meets. Black is to play in the ringed point.

Lineages

Each colour is one line of descent. Every first player founds its own line; most die out, and now and then a large mutation founds a new one.
